Caribtours 2017 brochures

Caribtours is an independent UK tour operator specialising in luxury holidays to the Caribbean, Mexico, USA, Indian Ocean, Europe and Arabia.

I was asked to write hotel descriptions for 33 properties that were new to the Caribtours portfolio for 2017, ranging from small boutique hotels in the Caribbean to family resorts in the Mediterranean, while adhering to the brand’s well established tone of voice.

Castara Retreats, Tobago

From the tiny hummingbirds hovering amongst the trees to the fireflies that light up the night sky, this wonderful family-run eco retreat is all about getting back to nature. The sea views are stunning, the accommodation is beautifully designed, and the warm hospitality has guests coming back year after year.

On the edge of the fishing village of Castara on the west coast of Tobago, around an hour’s drive from the airport.

Each of Castara’s 15 lodges is unique, stylishly decorated with bags of local character. One and two bedroom options are available, and all lodges have either a full or partial ocean view, along with a private deck or communal terrace, kitchen, WiFi, ceiling fan, in-room safe, double hammock and mosquito nets. Some lodges also have air-conditioning.

Restaurants & Bars
The Pavilion Restaurant enjoys a gorgeous setting overlooking the beach, and serves up a innovative menu blending local flavours with more eclectic influences from around the globe. The views at sunset are particularly breathtaking, and the adjoining Pagoda Bar has a cocktail menu that is well worth dipping into.

Nature is a huge part of Castara’s appeal, and the hotel offers excellent guided birding trips and rainforest walks. The rustic setting doesn’t mean you have to do without modern technology however, with complimentary WiFi throughout the property. Three therapists are on hand to help you relax, with yoga and massage available on request.

Important Information
The accommodation at Castara is located on a hillside, and is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties.

What you need to know…

  • The hotel is expertly managed by the legendary Porridge and Jeanell, who are full of local knowledge
  • Castara is a real wildlife sanctuary, home to more than 70 species of bird, including boobies, frigate birds and osprey
  • Sustainable tourism is hardwired into everything the hotel does, from the ecologically sensitive accommodation to the policy of employing only local people, many from Castara village itself
  • Many guests choose to make the most of the self-catering facilities, but we recommend dining at the excellent Pavilion Restaurant at least once during your stay, and there are plenty of local eateries just a three minute walk away in the village
